About Lanzarote

Lanzarote is believed to have been the first Canary Island to be settled. The Greek writers and philosophers Herodotus, Plato, and Plutarch described the garden of the Hesperides, a mythic orchard which some like to identify with the Canaries. Lanzarote is known for its year-round warm weather and endemic flora and fauna. Black or yellow sandy beaches are beautiful and together with green plants form an unforgettable conglomerate. The volcanic ground of Lanzarote is very porous, which is generally the reason why the soil is able to maximise the absorption of water on an island of low rainfall, with great contribution from condensation in forested areas.

Blind crab is the animal symbol of Lanzarote and endemic to it. It is small, blind and white, and can be found in the caves of Jameos del Agua and in lava tubes. Females carry only two eggs which are relatively big in contrast to the numerous small eggs in other crustaceans.

  • Timanfaya National Park is a volcanic landscape that has barely changed since its eruption in the 1730s and covers a quarter of the island’s surface.
  • Cueva de los Verdes (“Green’s Cave”): A guided tour takes you through a succession of caverns and tunnels formed by an underground river of lava. The melted rock and mineral formations are well lit, and the demonstration of their acoustical qualities is truly surprising.
  • Campesino Monument was built to honour Lanzarote’s agricultural traditions, with an on-site museum displaying local handicrafts.
  • LagOmar Museum is an open-air museum with its tunnels, rocks and gardens that invite you into the fascinating world of Omar Sharif.
  • Mirador del Rio is a lookout located at the northernmost tip of the island. It has a comfortable bar and lounge offering a magnificent panoramic view of the small islands to the north of Lanzarote.
  • Jardín de Cactus – “Cactus Garden”
  • Fundación César Manrique is a house, built inside 5 volcanic bubbles.

Around La Finca, there are many pickup points for all excursions on Lanzarote.
